July 2016

Don DiNovi
President's Message
Thank you to all members and guests who attended our June 23rd Lunch & Learn Seminar with special guest speaker, Robert Dietz, Ph.D., Chief Economist at the National Association of Home Builders in Washington, D.C., and special thanks to our host and Premier Partner, Stuart Berger and Team at SAX in Clifton NJ, for their generous hospitality. Dr. Dietz gave a very informative and interactive presentation on the state of housing & economic forecasts for NJ and the nation.
Dr. Dietz handles housing market analysis, economic forecasting and industry surveys, and housing policy research for the National Association of Home Builders. Dr. Dietz has published academic research on the private and social benefits of homeownership, federal tax expenditure estimation, and other housing and tax issues in peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Urban Economics, Journal of Housing Research, the National Tax Journal and the NBER Working Paper series.
Attendees asked some great questions and gained valuable industry data to take back to their respective companies for future business strategic planning.  We would like to thank Dr. Dietz for taking the trip to NJ to address our members and show the value of the three-in-one membership of our Association.  Click Here to View Seminar Photos and be sure to like our FaceBook page to view all BRANNJ event photos!

I'd like to also welcome our newest member:

NJBA is also gathering data from our members regarding building inspection delays in the state.  If you have experienced any such delays, kindly respond to State’s request for information in the letter below from NJBA President Dwight Pittenger:

Dear Members,
Across the State, our members are experiencing unprecedented delays in scheduling and receiving building inspections. These inspection delays are having a profound and costly impact on the home building industry.
In an effort to combat this growing problem, the Officers and I need your help to document the scope and extent of these delays. If you have a project where the municipality is failing to meet the statutory obligations regarding inspections, please send us the following information:
  • Name of the municipality
  • Technical discipline in which you are experiencing delays (building, electrical, fire, plumbing, etc.)
  • Length of the delays
  • Number of units impacted
Forward the information to Grant Lucking via email, at grant@njba.org, as soon as possible. Make sure to include the pertinent details for any and all projects that are affected and please verify that the details are accurate, as NJBA's credibility is paramount.

I appreciate your assistance as we work to resolve the issue of building inspection delays.

 Sincerely,
Dwight Pittenger
