Many thanks to Danushka Nanayakkara-Skillington, VP of Forecasting and Analysis at the National Association of Homebuilders for presenting our members with an informative 2026 Economic and Housing Forecast on February 5th . 

All who attended the lunch and learn took away valuable housing data for our state and the housing market in general for the coming year. Most encouraging is that the remodeling sector is strong and looks promising for the foreseeable future.

Our new Professional Women in Building
Council has really received a lot of interest with over 20 new members this year! To that end, the PWB will be having two upcoming events in March and April. On Thursday, March 12th, Reno’s Appliance will host a team building pizza making event at their Paterson showroom. Meet the PWB council members and participate in this fun, casual and interactive event and as we learn how to make delicious pizza from Chef Eva! This is a great opportunity to learn more about our PWB, the mission and future planning for growth for our Association.

On Wednesday, April 29th, the Professional Women in Building will have an invitation-only luxury inspired event at the beautiful Ornare Showroom in Paramus, NJ. It will be an evening of connection and collaboration of industry professionals and partners who will come together to learn about the luxury space, products and services in the Northern NJ market. Non-PWB ticket price will be available if not sold out so look for more information.

 Lumber Today
 

  • Most industry forecasts expect lumber to remain relatively steady in the mid-$500s to low-$600s per 1,000 board feet in early 2026.

  • Continued soft housing demand and tariff uncertainty are keeping pressure on prices, so sharp rallies aren’t widely expected.

  • Seasonal factors (spring construction) could push prices a bit higher compared with winter, but nothing extreme is forecast unless trade policy or supply disruptions hit unexpectedly.

  • Expect mid-$500s to low-$600s range for lumber around March 2026, with some volatility possible but no major spikes projected absent a policy or supply shock.







 







2026 Scholarships




The charitable arm of the Builders Association of Northern New Jersey (BANNJ) is offering educational and technical training scholarships. These funds are available to Bergen, Hudson, Passaic and Sussex County residents intending to pursue a career associated with the home building/remodeling industry. These awards are funded through the generosity of BANNJ members and other interested parties. The Association is responding to the industry’s dire need for skilled industry professionals. Selected scholarships will be awarded as follows:

        The Donald Van Natta and The Alex Sands & Jeffrey C. Mathieu Memorial Scholarships: Each may grant up to a $1,000 scholarship to a qualified student for one school year of college or training in the trade.

        The John J. and Helen M. Durante Charitable Trust Scholarship: Offered through the Community Foundation of NJ and by the Durante Charitable Trust this scholarship is available to students who are committed to pursue building/ remodeling industry related education. A $4,000 grant will be awarded to one qualified student; $2,000 paid for the first year and $2,000 paid for the second year of study.  Applicants for this scholarship must be a high school senior planning to attend an accredited college or university.

In all cases, candidates must be full-time or part-time students who will attend accredited institutions with the intent of pursuing a building/construction-related degree or trade school certification. Construction-related is defined as general construction (i.e., carpenter, plumber, electrician, or any other trade related to the building/remodeling industry) or degree programs including, but not limited to: Interior Design,  Drafting and Design, Construction Technology, Mechanical Contracting, HVAC Technology, Real Estate and Marketing, Electrical Engineering, Architectural Design, Surveying, Civil Engineering, Environmental Technology, Land Use Management, Construction and Business Management, and Landscape Architecture.

Scholarships will be awarded in the form of tuition paid directly to the institution. The selection process, conducted by the Scholarship Funds Committee, will be based on the following criteria: (1) the student’s desire to enter the building/remodeling industry as a career, (2) the student’s academic ability/potential and (3) the student’s financial need.

To be considered for all scholarships, students will need to complete the application from BANNJ and to be considered for the Durante scholarship, students must also complete the separate application from the Community Foundation of New Jersey.
