Congratulations to longtime BANNJ Builder Member Peter Montalbano of Woodcliff Lake Development for being honored at the National Association of Home Builders Build PAC as the NJ representative in the Foundation of Housing Award Inaugural Class!

NAHB recently introduced its first Certified Master Building Professionals (CMBP) and Certified Master Remodeling Professionals (CMRP) as 62 industry leaders hold the new title of Certified Master Builder or Remodeler, with the numbers growing weekly. Congratulations to BANNJ President Alan Archuleta of Archuleta Builders (far right in photo) for being in this inaugural class of industry professionals!

 

 

Building Material Prices Rise at Highest Rate in Over Three Years

Lumber prices eased to near $616 per thousand board feet, after reaching near an eight-month high on June 22 amid concerns over higher import costs for Canadian softwood lumber and tighter supply conditions. Although preliminary anti-dumping and countervailing duty rates were recently lowered, the overall tariff burden remains elevated, including the existing Section 232 tariff set to take effect in August. The prospect of higher import costs has tightened supply expectations and prompted buyers to accelerate purchases, supporting prices in recent weeks. At the same time, U.S. domestic lumber production remains constrained, while demand for wood products continues to be underpinned by residential construction.

The housing framing materials price outlook for July 2026 indicates a firming market with clear upward price momentum driven by tighter mill supplies and persistent import tariffs despite a sluggish broader housing market. While overall construction input costs have risen 6.2% through the first half of the year, framing materials are experiencing a structural shift into July.

On the trade front, a scheduled joint review of USMCA begins on July 1st. Officials from Canada, Mexico, and the United States will meet to decide whether to extend the agreement for 16 years or shift to an annual review process over the next decade.
