BRANNJ President Anthony Volpe
 President's Message
We have been busy with some great events this spring at BRANNJ.  Thanks so much to Premier Partner John Bacon and team at SubZero Wolf for hosting our April meeting at their beautiful showroom in Pine Brook, NJ.  All in attendance enjoyed their fabulous hospitality and learned about current design trends and how high quality, high end products can benefit building professionals by increasing sales and profitability.  Be sure to contact a professional at SubZero to receive more information on their outstanding products and services for the building community.

Despite the inclement weather, our May 22nd golf outing at White Beeches Golf & Country Club was a tremendous success!  We had SOLD OUT registrations again this year, and thanks so much to the over 100 golfers who braved the elements to participate in our 70th Annual Golf Outing and to those who attended our cocktail reception and Golf & Scholarship Awards dinner.  This year, we honored the memory of our past president, golf chair and friend, Don DiNovi, and dedicated our golf awards to him.  Many thanks to my golf co-chair, Victoria Reczkowski (Ferguson), and the golf committee Stu Berger (SAX), John Cioletti (Reno’s) and Eric Squires (Pella); to Scholarship Awards Master of Ceremonies, Jeff Mathieu and Scholarship Chair, Mary Brennan (M. Brennan Design Associates) and to our 2017 student scholarship winners who are pursuing a degree in a building industry related field:  Christina Rubino, Architecture at Syracuse University  (Alex Sands Memorial Award); Ryan Yannotti, Engineering Science at Bergen Community College (Donald Van Natta Memorial Award) and Jesse Boonstra, Construction Technology at SUNY, Delhi (John J. and Helen M. Durante Family Charitable Scholarship-Community Foundation of NJ).

ACCOUNTING FIRM BREAKS INDUSTRY NORMS TO ENABLE EMPLOYEE’S CHARITABLE EFFORTS

Clifton, N.J., April 27, 2017 – In an industry known for strict regulations, business formal dress codes and face-to-face client service, accounting firm Sax LLP broke all the rules this tax season when it allowed senior tax associate Mathew Giordano to grow his hair out for Locks of Love, a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to economically disadvantaged children experiencing medical hair loss.

A Woodland Park resident and Clifton native, Giordano and his wife began growing out their hair together a year and a half ago. By the time this year’s tax season rolled around, it was well past his shoulders, and he approached Sax Managing Partner Joseph A. Damiano for permission to continue.

“I agreed without hesitation,” said Damiano, whose own twin daughters are growing out their hair for the same organization. “Sax is a firm that has always made community service a top priority, and giving back to those less fortunate transcends business etiquette and protocol. I commend Mat’s dedication to this cause and hope his example inspires even more charitable giving among our team members and clients.”

Giordano adds: “For me, it’s all about helping a child feel good about themselves. The fact that Sax was willing to help me achieve something so significant speaks volumes to their commitment to giving back to the community and empowering their employees to do the same.”

In further solidarity with Giordano’s cause, Sax hosted a charity denim day, allowing all employees to wear jeans to work in exchange for a donation to Locks of Love. This is just one of many charitable initiatives the firm will spearhead this year.

Sax will literally go the extra mile for their local community this fall, as the firm’s charitable foundation hosts its 6th Annual 4 Miler at Garret Mountain on September 16, 2017. The popular run/walk event held at Garret Mountain Reservation in Woodland Park has raised more than $290,000 for St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital since 2012.

The firm also promotes community service through paid time off for volunteerism and arranging team charitable opportunities through Paterson Habitat for Humanity, Making Strides for Breast Cancer, Ronald McDonald House New York and more.
