Message from BRANNJ President
One and a half months into the new year and "this joint is jumpin." We had our first board of directors meeting in January which included our new board members blending in with our existing board members. Unity is too weak of a word to utilize to describe our leadership. Unity with a deep passion for success would be a better description. BRANNJ was the ONLY local home builders association (HBA) in New Jersey that had membership totals that grew from 2011 to 2012 and we intend to keep that positive momentum as we restore BRANNJ as the premier local in NJ.
Our volunteers in New Jersey are second to none and I am proud to congratulate our statewide award winners. Please, let's all recognize them for the dedication to our building industry!
Associate Hall of Fame- PATRICIA PHILIPSON, C.P.A., SAX, MACY, FROMM, CLIFTON, NJ.
Initiated at the 1984 convention, the Associate Hall of Fame Award recognizes Associate members for their sustained, dedicated quality service to the association and community. It is not necessary that a candidate be from a specific local, committee or affiliate.
Associate Continuing Service Award— HOWARD VAN NATTA, VAN NATTA MECHANICAL, MAHWAH, NJ.
The Associate Continuing Service Award acknowledges an individual for outstanding service and commitment to the association and the industry for at least 15 years. The recipient must be an active dues-paying Associate member on the local, state and national levels who has already received the Associate of the Year and Associate Hall of Fame awards. More than one award may be made annually, if warranted.
Remodeler Continuing Service Award— DONALD DOBRES, FINE HOME CONSTRUCTION, WESTWOOD, NJ.
The Remodeler Continuing Service Award acknowledges an individual for outstanding service and commitment to the association and the industry for at least 15 years. The recipient must be an active dues-paying Builder member on the local, state and national levels who has already received the Remodeler of the Year and Remodeler Hall of Fame awards. More than one award may be made annually, if warranted.
NJBA Ironman Award- VICTORIA RECZKOWSKI, FERGUSON, NORWOOD, NJ
What is an Ironman? Who is an Ironman? or Woman?
NJBA Associates Committee definition:
An Ironman never misses a meeting, leads the membership drive, collects prizes for the golf outing, has a full-time job and three kids, but chairs two committees, comes in weekends to put the newsletter together, and writes press releases. Chosen by their local associations for exemplary attendance and extensive participation on a variety of committees, boards and task forces, these members have earned the Associates Committee Ironman Award.
Thank you to all members and guests who attended the two day OSHA 10 Construction Safety Course on January 14th and 15th, and a big thanks to Howard Van Natta and Van Natta Mechanical for hosting the class at their Mahwah location. In conjunction with Middleton & Company Insurance (thanks Richard Gaynor), Robert Sudell of Liberty Mutual gave an extremely informative and comprehensive overview of OSHA rules and regulations affecting NJ companies. All attendees who completed the 10 hour course will receive their certification. Here is a quote from one of the class attendees: “It was one of the best training's I have ever taken! The Instructor was a treasure trove of knowledge, he was also funny. His use of real life analogies really drove home the importance of the safety concepts. Our firm is better positioned to safely protect our employees moving forward, thank you again!”~Vince Blehl, Green T. Home, Upper Saddle River, NJ.
We at BRANNJ are pleased to be able to bring our members and the building community timely educational information. Look for more educational events on industry topics throughout the year.

Volunteers always win.
Whenever you raise your hand you wind up being asked to do more.
That's
great. Doing more is an opportunity: to learn, to impress, to gain
skills, to build new relationships--to do something more than you would
otherwise been able to do.
Success is based on action. The more you volunteer, the more you get to act. Successful people step forward to create opportunities.
